Mexican Embroidery

I've always loved Mexican crafts and fabrics. And Mexican embroidery in particular has a way of making whatever it appears on look that much better! I designed this outfit using the fabric below for inspiration. I'd sure as hell wear that dress if it existed!

While I might complain all the time about the lack of decent clothes in shops lately, at least I know that I can draw whatever I want into existence...

Africa

Another request, this time from my sister Erica. She's convinced she was swapped at birth and is really of African origin (you're not black, Erica- let it go!).
So naturally I had to design the outfit she'd wear for when she claims her 'birth right' and becomes an African Queen..
Complete with pet lemur and an elephant-head staff!

Primark Novelty Sunglasses

I came across what may well be the coolest sunglasses I have EVER SEEN on Pinterest the other day. These Primark sunnies were begging to be drawn. And what better way to showcase novelty sunglasses than with a Malibu Barbie-esque girl on a swan pool float?

*note to self; buy swan pool float*

Tartan

I'm a big fan of tartan when it's done right. And you'd think the Scotts would get it right every time, so I think everyone that saw the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony recently was a bit shocked when this happened...

I'm sorry, but this is just.... no. This is what tartan should look like-

Not this...

Chinese Porcelain

I caught up with my friend Maren recently and I offered to design a dress for her- just like we used to back in high school when we were bored in class.
She asked for something blue, with sleeves.  So I took some inspiration from Chinese porcelain (below), and this is what I ended up with.

Hope you like it Moo! (a.k.a Maren- the origins of this nick name are very hazy, but it's the one that stuck).

Aztec Head-Dress

What I wouldn't give for an Aztec head-dress... Oh well. If you can't have it, draw it.

Salvatore Ferragamo

I came across these amazing Salvatore Ferragamo pants (below) on Pinterest a while ago and decided to design an outfit around them. Seeing as I only had this cropped image to go by, I kind of had to make up what I thought the rest looked like. I ended up with the image above.

It only occurred to me after I'd finished painting it that I could look up a full view image of these on Google, and low and behold- they were in fact a jumpsuit, and look nothing like my interpretation of them!

Ferragamo sure knows his prints, but I still think I'd rather wear my pants... Jumpsuits and I have a love-hate relationship.

Hiiiiiidy-ho!

Welcome to my blog!

I had a recent epiphany (which took a ridiculous amount of time to arrive at), and realised I want to take the world by storm as a fashion illustrator. The two interests that have remained unwavering constants in my life have been fashion and illustration. But being the idiot that I am, I assumed that to be a 'fashion illustrator' you had to actually make the clothes you illustrate.

Not so! And ever since that realisation a few weeks ago, I've been busy concocting things in my 'illustration cave' and finally think I'm ready to take the leap into social media. I'll aim to post at least two illustrations per week, with a few extra fashion musings from time to time.

I'm still learning and developing my aesthetic as an Illustrator, but ultimately I'd love to be able to make this my career. Fashion has always held some major appeal for me. I love designing outfits, flipping through magazines, dragging friends to fashion shows, every styling and designing show on TV (I'll never get sick of Project Runway) and scouring through images on Pinterest for hours..

I love the glamour, imagination, and even the insanity of fashion. Who knows, maybe in ten year's time all the glitz will have addled my brain and I'll end up something like this..

You can track my decent into potential insanity here! In the meantime, here's my first illustration...
